Tonight! Friday Aug 26th 6pm: The 2022 Pioneer Football Season kicks off with the Mayor’s Trophy Rivalry Game against Governor Livingston (No Thanksgiving Game this year). Come cheer on our team, our Pride and Class Marching Band, and our 📣Cheerleaders! Let’s Go Pioneers!

A new sidewalk was installed in front of AWR to aid in the drop off and pickup of students. Please stay off the concrete until it is totally dry. www.newprov.org/2022/08/new-sidewalk-installed-at-awr/

New Providence PBA Emergency Blood Drive on August 31st from 12:30pm to 6:30pm at Borough Hall. 


Thank you to our crossing guards! The NPPD hosted a very nice Crossing Guard Luncheon this week I attended to thank our crossing guards, and go over everything for the upcoming school year.

Congratulations to Chief Daniel Henn on getting sworn in as our new police Chief this past Tuesday at our Council meeting. Officers Carly Bouman and Marcos Martinez were sworn in and welcomed to the New Providence Police Department. We also congratulate and welcome Special Officer Bob Moran as a Class 3 Officer. We are very proud of our Police Department here in New Providence and thank them for their good service to our community.

Borough Council Approves National Hispanic Heritage Month Celebration Program

NEW PROVIDENCE, NJ – The Borough Council approved the New Providence Diversity Committee’s request to host and support events in celebration of National Hispanic Heritage Month at its Tuesday, Aug. 16 meeting.

Members of the Diversity Committee and organizers of the Hispanic Heritage Month attended the meeting to present the activities and events scheduled during the Heritage Month which runs from Sep. 15 through Oct. 15. The month-long celebrations highlight the history, heritage and contributions of the ancestors of American citizens who came from Mexico, Spain, the Caribbean and South and Central America. The celebrations will incorporate the theme “Unidos (United): Inclusivity for a Stronger Nation” and they will include the following programs: student poster contest, speakers, Hispanic heritage artifact display, zumba/dance demonstrations, movie “ENCANTO”, bilingual music class, Spanish story time, parade of traditional dresses, Daria’s World of Music, folklore and Latin dance, arts and crafts activities, as well as Mariachi music.

Police Chief Daniel Henn Sworn-in; Three New Police Officers Appointed

NEW PROVIDENCE, NJ – Daniel Henn was sworn in as Police Chief at the Tuesday, Aug. 16 Council meeting. The council also appointed three new officers: Carly Bouman and Marcos Martinez as Probationary Police Officers and Robert Moran as a Class III Special Law Enforcement Officer.

The packed council room of family and friends of Henn and the new officers witnessed the swearing-in ceremony officiated by Mayor Al Morgan. Among the attendees were Assemblywoman Michele Matsikoudis, Former Council Presidents Michael Gennaro and Robert Robinson, as well as former New Providence Police Chief and Borough Administrator Douglas Marvin.

We really enjoyed the new displays at our library! Please try to stop by to see them! Thank you to our Historical Society and to our Friends of the Library.

Utility Upgrades are continuing around the Borough, expect some delays and detours. Please be patient while this important work continues.

The new traffic pattern on Pioneer Drive and Balcom Drive began Monday. Please be aware of new road striping patterns.

New Providence Community Pool Celebrates 60th Anniversary

NEW PROVIDENCE, NJ – In celebration of the New Providence Pool’s 60th anniversary, the New Providence Memorial Library hosted pool co-founders and local author, Bert Abbazia, who shared his experiences on the founding of the New Providence Community Pool, and talked about his book “The Creation of the New Providence Community Pool” to a packed room of attendees. 

Mayor Al Morgan said, “Bert has shared his time and talents over his many years in the New Providence area and has been a part of the growth of the community. He continues to be active with the New Providence Senior Citizens Club, and is a Life Member of our New Providence Historical Society. We thank Bert for his many years of good service to our community and congratulate and thank all our past and present pool board members for 60th great years of swimming and summer fun.”

Pioneer Drive New Traffic Pattern Starts Monday Aug 8th: Please be advised that the new traffic pattern on Pioneer Drive and Balcom Road will change effective August 8, 2022. The Police Department will locate message boards in the area to alert drivers of the changes and will have additional personnel on site when school is back in session.

Tax Bill Mailing Update: 2022 Final/2023 Preliminary tax bills were mailed out on July 26, 2022. The grace period for 3rd quarter taxes has been extended to August 25, 2022.

Commerce Street Pedestrian Bridge Update: Contractors are putting in the footings for the new pedestrian bridge on Commerce Street. We are waiting on a timeline for the delivery of the bridge itself. Thank you to our New Providence Police Department for hosting the 2022 Police Youth Academy. It is such an incredible program for rising 6th and 7th graders. Congratulations to the graduates! Thank you to all who supported and participated including our Recreation Department, New Providence Volunteer Fire Department, The Union County Police, The Union County Police Bomb Squad, The Union County Sheriff’s K-9 Unit, Norfolk Southern Rail Road Police Officer Tom Jedic, and the Union County SWAT team. Thank you also to the academy staff: Sgt. Wilson, Corporal Hoppe, Det. Carlino, Det. Guerriero and Officer Jeffrey Bruder.

Mayor’s Community Update: July 15, 2022

Here is a Catch Up of this Past Week in New Providence and Some of the Many Exciting Things Going On and Upcoming in our Community:

Wishing all who celebrated a very blessed Eid al-Adha. Eid Mubarak!

Congratulations to PBA 132 Egg-My-House “Police Officer for a Day” winners: Favi & Esteban Rodriguez. After being sworn-in, they toured the PD, helped instruct the Youth Academy, and attended presentations by the UC Bomb Squad, UC Drone Unit, and the UC SWAT Team. Be sure to sign up for next years Egg-My-House for a chance to be a “Police Officer for a Day.”

This past Thursday was our 1st Concert-in-the-Park. The music and entertainment was excellent but even better was having our community, friends, families, and neighbors out together. It’s what New Providence is all about! Thank you to Prestige Diner for very generously donating free hot dogs that the New Providence Lions grilled and served, Zita’s Homemade Ice Cream for very generously donating free ice cream for all to enjoy, Tropical Smoothie Cafe for giving out delicious free sample smoothies, ACME Markets for all the free water bottles, Dr Robinson for giving out free bags, and Advanced Financial Federal Credit Union for giving out free re-usable beverage containers. Thank you also to Simon the Magician who was entertaining all the kids. It was a really fun night!
