We are so happy to learn that seven of our afflicted have fully recovered! We will continue to keep you updated as we receive confirmed information. We thank our first responders, medical personnel, essential personnel, and all our generous volunteers and contributors. We pray for our afflicted and mourn our lost. If you would like to show your support, please help us light up our nights in our community by placing a candle or lights in your windows or outdoors.
MASKS
Masks are required at all retail establishments, while riding on NJTransit, and recommended in any place in close proximity to others. Please visit www.nj.gov and www.cdc.gov for more information. If you are in need of a mask, Linda’s Creative Gifts located at 1259 Springfield Ave in New Providence, is hosting her 3rd Mask Giveaway with voluntary donations going to our New Providence Rescue Squad, tomorrow (Saturday 4/18) between 11am and 2pm. Additionally, Mike Allocco of Special-Tees, 300 Springfield Ave in Berkeley Heights, is offering his services to sew you your own mask if you drop off to him (top mailbox outside Special Tees) a labeled ziplock bag or large envelope with your name and phone number and 12”x16” pieces of cut up old or worn 50/50 blend sweatshirt or cotton t-shirt. MEMORIAL DAY PARADE
Our Memorial Day Parade is sadly cancelled but the New Providence Recreation Department, in collaboration with American Legion Post #433, is collecting photos from Memorial Day Parades years past for a video as a way of saying thank you to all of the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice for our country. They are collecting any past New Providence Memorial Day pictures you may have between 1954 and 2019 to be included in the video. Photos can be of any aspect of the parade, community groups, marching band, military, wreath laying ceremonies, etc. Please submit your photos via email at recdept@newprov.org with “Parade Photos” in the subject line by May 1st. Together We Are At Our Best
There is no greater honor for this hometown boy than to serve you as Mayor of our great community. The past four years have been stellar for New Providence. We have made great strides and accomplished many great things together. We are a growing and evolving community with a proud tradition of excellence that has been my distinct honor and privilege to serve, uphold, and represent. Thank you for your faith in me and for your continued support. I would also like to thank my wife and family, friends, and neighbors, and all wives, husbands, families, and friends of all who serve. It is a team effort. Without their support, patience, and sacrifice, we would not be able to serve our community in the capacity we do, so on behalf of all of us here, we thank you.

A Banner Year
It has been another banner year for New Providence. Despite the many challenges faced, we had a record number of accomplishments this year. As promised, we have focused and promoted community at every turn, welcoming many new friends and neighbors to our beautiful borough including our new residents at Lantern Hill. We have helped foster inclusivity and promote our pioneer spirit of cooperation by providing many more community gatherings and events with the help and support of our very generous business community, our many organizations and committees including the Lions Club, our PBA, our Community Service Association, our Diversity Committee, our Recreation Department, our Municipal Alliance, our Education Foundation, our Athletic Foundation, and our Scouts, to name only a few, also our Board of Education, our employees, and especially all of our hard working volunteers. Volunteers are the fabric of small town living and the backbone of our community. Without generous donors and dedicated volunteers who continually give selflessly of their time, talent, and support, often thanklessly, we could not provide or do all that we do. Thank you! Community
New Providence has become synonymous with the word “COMMUNITY”. Community is what we are all about. Neighbors helping neighbors. Residents actively participating in numerous inclusive community events, activities, and drives, giving generously of their time and resource through our many community organizations including CSA, Lions, the New Providence Education and Athletic Foundations, Seniors, the Diversity Committee, the Community Activities Department, and our Scouts among others, all helping and working together to improve the quality of life for all. The Pioneer Spirit lives on!

Nice Place. Nice People.
What a GREAT year for New Providence! Many years ago, there was a slogan contest held to best describe New Providence. Mrs. Young, of Woodbine Circle, won this contest with this slogan: “NEW PROVIDENCE. NICE PLACE. NICE PEOPLE”. Decades later, this slogan still tells the story of our town and our people. I am happy to report that New Providence had many impressive accomplishments this year, but most outstanding by far is that we really pulled together as a community. We held many community events and activities this year including fundraisers, service, and cultural events that not only were enjoyable, and entertaining, but helpful, educational, and inclusive. Over this past year, I have witnessed such countless acts of kindness and generosity unlike anything I have seen in a very long time. It is truly heartwarming. Neighbors helping neighbors. Residents actively participating in clothing, toy, and food drives, giving generously of their time, their service, their resources, and never asking for any kind of recognition. In fact, many activities are being continually done with little or no recognition at all especially through our CSA, the New Providence Education Foundation, Lions, our Seniors, our Diversity Committee, our Community Activities Department, our Scouts, and our high school students (who have been spotted periodically throughout our borough doing clean ups, and hosting special events for our families and for our seniors). Nothing says ‘community’, and ‘teamwork’, and ‘pioneer spirit’ than seeing our young people working and helping alongside our residents, hand in hand. Remembering 9/11
A Message from Mayor Al Morgan 9/11/15:
Today We Remember
Fourteen years ago today, we awoke to a beautiful azure blue sky. It was clear without a cloud or a foreshadowing of what was soon to come. There were no threats of a storm or of anything else. The mild temperature and light breeze that day filled the air with thoughts of the arrival of fall and all the joys that come with it. Tragically what soon followed on that beautiful peaceful morning changed all of our lives forever. Shocked to our very core, confused, and bewildered, most of us prayed all that horrible day hoping for any sort of news… something…. anything… The world as we knew it and took for granted completely changed forever. We changed forever.
As Mayor, I knew I was responsible for almost 12,000 residents. Our fire department went to Staten Island to cover for the fire company that went into Manhattan. Our rescue squad covered both New Providence and Berkeley Heights when Berkeley Heights went into New York. Our police were extraordinary keeping us calm and as informed as best they could while working tirelessly with families of our missing neighbors. And as the moments ticked away with information that was spotty at best, six cars were left waiting in the parking lot for owners that would never return. Six empty seats were waiting at the dinner table. Six of our families forever devastated. New Providence alone lost six of our own and countless others lost even more. Everyone knew someone who was never coming home.
Today we remember them all: our lost neighbors, our friends, and our families. Today we honor our emergency management teams who help keep us safe: our police, our fire department, and our EMS. Today we reflect and pray that we never experience anything like this again. Today, as I do every year on this day, I stop by Centennial Park at our monuments to quietly reflect and invite all of you to join me wherever you are today reading this, to take in a moment of quiet reflection.

New Providence Comes Together for National Night Out 2015
By NEW PROVIDENCE, NJ – Residents, organizations, elected officials and emergency personnel came together on Tuesday night for New Providence’s second annual National Night Out in Centennial Park.
National Night Out highlights emergency services and their relationship with the community and enables the community to stand together and promote awareness, safety and neighborhood unity.
Borough Administrator Doug Marvin said, “National Night Out is a spectacular community event. We are able to showcase to the community all of the vital services available to them.”
Police officers, firefighters and emergency medical technicians had their equipment on display and interacted with the community. A bounce house, dunk tank and other activities were available for children to enjoy.
New Providence Mayor Al Morgan said, “Hats off to the PBA and all of the public safety people in town for making this a fantastic event. This is what New Providence is all about.” He added, “I had the best seat in the house in the dunk tank. It is the coolest place in town.”
Food and beverages from the Prestige Diner and Zita’s were provided by the New Providence Business and Professional Association and New Providence Lions Club. Entertainment was supplied by Al Elefante. Lantern Hill Residences, Affinity Credit Union, and the Municipal Alliance provided support for the event.
